UTS Curaçao selects Divitel to deliver next-generation MMDS platform to TDS
December 2008. United Telecommunication Services (UTS), parent company of TDS, the wireless cable service provider servicing the island of Curaçao and Bonaire, has chosen Divitel to renovate their existing platform and migrate it to a next-generation MMDS platform.
The next generation platform has been built from the operational situation. The main advantage of this process is that customers are barely affected. During the renovation the system has been migrated to a fully IP based platform. Meanwhile TDS has exchanged old settop boxes for new ones, which enables it to continue to serve its customers optimally.
One of the many advantages of such a MMDS platform is an enormous growth of bandwidth, without needing anymore frequency licenses or without expansion of the transmission farm. After the migration to a fully IPTV platform UTS is able to offer cross media services like TV on mobile, IPTV and Fiber to the Home (FttH) and of course many more HDTV channels. All these services are available in an extremely high digital quality.

About MMDS (multichannel multipoint distribution service)
MMDS is a wireless communications technology, used for general purpose broadband networking or, as an alternative method of cable television programming reception. It’s a broadband wireless point-to-multipoint specification that uses Ultra High Frequency (UHF) communications (or in case of UTS: 2,4 GHz).
